Hunter Creative Media & Design is a hand-coded web design studio in Aurora, IL. We build custom websites for businesses across the Fox Valley, Will County, DuPage, the south and southwest suburbs, and the city of Chicago. Deliverables / What You Get

What’s included with every custom website we build.

A custom web design project from the studio is a single line item, not a layered subscription. Every engagement ships with the deliverables below: the design, the code, the SEO foundation, the hosting, and the post-launch coverage. There are no required add-ons, no required retainers, and you own everything we build for you. Speed is part of that foundation, and our guide to website performance and Core Web Vitals explains how it gets built in from the start.

D.01

Custom design from a blank page

No themes, no templates, no starter kits. Every page is designed for your business, your content, and the customers you actually want.

D.02

Hand-coded HTML, CSS & JavaScript

The front end ships as semantic, hand-written code, not page-builder output. Lighter page weight, cleaner markup, full visual control.

D.03

Lighthouse 90+ on launch

Every site is tuned for Core Web Vitals before it goes live. Performance, accessibility, and best-practices scores are documented at handoff.

D.04

Schema, sitemap & GSC setup

Structured data for your business and pages, an XML sitemap, and a verified Google Search Console property. Configured at launch, not later.

D.05

Lead capture wired to your inbox or CRM

Forms route directly to the address or pipeline you actually check. Optional integration with HubSpot, Mailchimp, Zoho, Salesforce, or a custom destination.

D.06

Managed hosting included

Fast, secure WordPress hosting with daily backups, SSL, and uptime monitoring. Bundled with the build, not billed separately.

D.07

90 days of unlimited edits

Three months of unlimited content edits, image swaps, and small adjustments after launch. Most clients use it to iterate on the homepage and services pages once they see real traffic.

D.08

You own everything

Code, content, photography, hosting credentials, and the domain. If you ever migrate to another team, you walk out with the entire project.

Vertical Specialization / Who We Build For

Custom web design for the verticals we know best.

We build for established businesses, non-profits, and campaigns across a handful of verticals where hand-coded design genuinely changes the result. Each vertical has its own conventions, regulatory shape, and search behavior, and we approach the build accordingly. A few of the rooms we work in most often are below.

Process / How a Project Runs

Four phases. Every project. Documented end to end.

Every custom web design engagement runs through the same four phases. The first conversation is free and unhurried. By the end of phase one you have a written brief and a flat-rate quote: nothing else moves until you sign off.

PHASE I: DISCOVERY WK 01

Discovery, brief & flat-rate quote

We start with a real conversation (on Zoom or in person if you’re in the Aurora area) about your business, your customers, the queries you want to win, and what your current site is or isn’t doing. Then we write it up: scope, sitemap, success metrics, and a flat-rate quote with no hourly surprises. You sign off before any design work begins.

PHASE II: DESIGN & BUILD WK 02 to 05

Custom design, hand-coded build & content load

Visual direction comes first: typography, palette, layout system, and a homepage comp you actually have an opinion about. Once direction is locked, the build runs in parallel with content production. You see the site grow on a staging URL the entire time, with weekly check-ins and a shared revision log.

Deliv DIRECTION.PDF · STAGING URL · REV LOG
PHASE III | LAUNCH WK 05 to 06

QA, SEO setup & launch day

Final QA pass on every page across desktop, tablet, and mobile. Schema markup, sitemap, robots, canonicals, redirects from the old URLs, Google Search Console verification, analytics, and Core Web Vitals tuning all happen before launch, not after. Launch day itself is unceremonious because everything was already verified on staging.

PHASE IV | SUPPORT WK 06+

90 days of unlimited edits & ongoing care

The first ninety days post-launch include unlimited content edits, image swaps, copy adjustments, and small build work. After the initial window, optional monthly care covers content updates, performance monitoring, security patches, and small new builds, or you take the keys and run it yourself.

Hand-Coded vs Page Builders

Why hand-coded, and where the page-builder shortcuts cost you.

Page-builder platforms (WordPress with Divi or Elementor, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow’s exported output) aren’t bad tools. They’re useful in the right hands and the right context. But there are real, measurable trade-offs once a business depends on its website to convert traffic, rank locally, or scale. Here’s the honest comparison.

Approach 01 · Hand-Coded

Hand-coded HTML on WordPress

What we build. Custom-written front end, semantic markup, WordPress as the editable content layer underneath. The result is the lightest possible page weight for what your site needs to do.

  • Sub-2-second loads on 4G mobile
  • Lighthouse 90+ on launch, every category
  • Clean semantic markup that search engines parse easily
  • Full visual control: no theme limits
  • No required monthly subscription to a builder
  • You own the code outright on day one
Approach 02 · Page Builders

Divi, Elementor, Wix, Squarespace

The off-the-shelf path. Drag-and-drop interfaces produce code on your behalf. Quick to start; harder to scale. Real trade-offs become visible once you depend on the site for traffic and conversions.

  • Heavier page weight from generated markup
  • Lower Core Web Vitals scores out of the box
  • Visual ceiling fixed by the theme or platform
  • Recurring fees to the builder, host, or platform
  • Migration friction if you ever need to leave
  • Less control over schema, head markup, and SEO details

None of this is an argument against WordPress. We use WordPress on most builds. It’s a fantastic editable content layer when the front end is custom-coded against it. The argument is against letting a drag-and-drop tool ship the actual HTML and CSS that your customers download on every visit.

For a brochure site that nobody depends on for revenue, a template is fine. For a website that has to win local search, convert qualified leads, and represent a serious business across Aurora, the Fox Valley, and Chicagoland, hand-coded pays back in performance, ranking, and longevity.

Who You Are Hiring / Agency, Studio, Freelancer

Agency, studio, or freelancer: which one are you actually shopping for?

Most people start this search by typing “web design agency near me” or “web design company in Naperville,” which is reasonable, because those words are how the category gets talked about. They also describe three genuinely different businesses with three different price tags. Here is the honest version of each, including the cases where the right answer is not us.

Option A · $10,000–$75,000+

A Full-Service Web Design Agency

A team: strategist, designer, developer, project manager, account lead. You get capacity, a process that survives someone going on vacation, and people who can run brand, media, and web as one program. The overhead is real and it is in the price, but so is the value when the job actually needs it.

Right when You need brand, media, and web together
Option B · $750–$3,000+

A Small Design Studio

What this is. A small shop where the person you talk to is the person writing the code, so there is no account layer to pay for and no telephone game between your feedback and the change. Flat rates published on a public page, quoted in writing, no hourly meter. The trade-off is capacity: a studio takes on a handful of builds at a time, not thirty.

Right when You need one very good site, fast
See the flat rate card →
Option C · $500–$5,000

An Independent Freelancer

The widest quality range in the market, and the cheapest way in. Plenty of excellent freelancers are working right now for less than any studio charges. The risk is not skill, it is continuity: what happens in year two when they take a full-time job. Ask who owns the code and the hosting before you sign anything, and the risk mostly goes away.

Right when Budget is the binding constraint

If you searched for a web design agency in Naperville, a web design company in Aurora, or a web development agency anywhere across Chicago’s western suburbs, the useful question is not which label a shop uses. It is four things: who is actually writing the code, what the number is before work starts, who owns the site afterward, and how fast it loads on a phone. Ask those four of every quote you collect, ours included. A good agency answers them as cleanly as a good studio does, and anyone who cannot answer them has told you something.
